I stayed at this hotel between 23 and 26 Dec 2023.

Once I had my tickets sorted for my trip to Adelaide, I had to find a place to stay. Over the past few years I have accumulated a number of IHG Reward Points. So I decided to use them this time. I opted for points and money, paying about AUD 396.53 and 18,000 IHG reward points for my 3-night stay at the hotel.

As my flight is very early, it is still breakfast time when I arrive at the hotel. As the name suggests, the hotel is right next to Adelaide's central market. After getting off the bus at the airport, it takes me about 15 minutes to walk to the hotel.

The receptionist first welcomes me as a loyal customer of the IHG group. She is kind enough to offer me a free early check-in despite my early arrival. As I'm still a Platinum Elite member of IHG Rewards at the time of my stay, I'm given an upgrade on my booking. I'm also given a drink voucher as part of the status benefit. The hotel charges a security deposit of A$5o per night, which is refunded 5-7 business days after check-out.

The lobby of the hotel shares space with the bar and restaurant.

Oh, I forgot to mention, this is the contract hotel for Qatar Airways crews in Adelaide.

My room is on the 11th floor, at the end of the corridor on the left.

There aren't many skyscrapers in Adelaide's CBD, so I had a good view of the city.

As you enter the room, to the right is an adjoining area with a desk, a cupboard and a place to hang clothes. This area has a lot of metal elements. To the left is the bathroom, separated by glass.

This is the desk area, the space is a little tight and the central air conditioning control panel is next to the desk lamp. There are also USB A and C ports in the middle of the power sockets, which is handy.

Further inside, there's a bedroom with a double bed. There is a large sofa and table by the window.

The large bed is soft and comfortable and the bedding is very cosy.

The bedside table has a smart alarm clock with wireless charging, which is very handy. There are also plenty of sockets and USB ports on the wall, making the design very practical.

The countertop cabinet holds a variety of instant coffee and tea bags, as well as coffee capsules. There is also a capsule coffee machine on the tabletop. This is a great addition for someone like me who loves tea and coffee.

Beneath the worktop is a large cupboard containing a mini-bar fridge, mainly stocked with alcoholic drinks. Next to the fridge is a cupboard containing an electric kettle and wine glasses.

My room has a great view of the city.

The television is mounted on the ceiling, slightly towards the centre and in front of the bed. Underneath the TV is a cabinet with magazines and books about the area around the hotel, as well as tourist and food guides to Adelaide.

Let's turn on the TV and see what's on. It only has local Australian channels, and the remote is responsive.

Having explored the bedroom, let's take a look at the toilet and bathroom. There is a large mirror above the sink and a smaller, fancy make-up mirror below it. The bathroom is mostly decorated in a metallic style.

The toilet and bathroom have an effective separation of wet and dry areas, with modern facilities and impeccable cleanliness. There are no water stains and the general hygiene is well maintained.

Perhaps the biggest drawback of this hotel is the Wi-Fi. For such a new hotel, the Wi-Fi speed is quite slow. What's wrong with that? Also, using the Wi-Fi is a bit cumbersome as you have to enter your personal details before you can connect.

Because of my status as a high-level IHG Rewards card member, an extra bottle of Italian mineral water and a handwritten welcome card were placed outside my room by a member of the hotel staff shortly after I checked in.

I use the free drink voucher from check-in at the rooftop bar, where I enjoy a bottle of beer and a casual drink. Although it is summer, the rooftop is a bit chilly at night with a strong breeze. Nevertheless, the view from the rooftop is truly impressive.

Overall, the experience at the InterContinental Adelaide Central Market Hotel is good. The prices are reasonable for Australia and the hotel is in a prime location opposite Adelaide Central Market and Chinatown. There are plenty of dining options nearby. The hotel is new, well equipped and tastefully designed. The front desk staff are knowledgeable and hospitable. Rooms are generally spacious and comfortable, with excellent natural light and a bed of moderate firmness. However, the hotel's slow Wi-Fi is a major drawback.
